Disney

For Sonia’s third birthday (and Lindsey’s 34th) we decided to take the family to Disney Land for a couple days. Veo came along to help take care of the kids, and to help celebrate. In addition, some of our friends were able to join for Sunday, the first day of our two day trip. In general, it was a success and a lot of fun, with just a couple hiccups.

Sonia knew ahead of time where we were going and seemed to be excited about seeing Goofy, Pluto, Donald, Daisy, Mickey and Minnie. We don’t talk about Disney characters much, but she’s obviously picked up a lot about them from school and/or Veo. Obviously, she didn’t really know what to expect, but she didn’t seem overwhelmed by all the people, the grand facades or the characters. She was still shy though, and didn’t want to get too close. She was very happy to see all them from a safe distance, with just a couple instances of photo taking.

We managed to ride almost every kid-friendly ride in the park over two days but Sonia’s favorite was definitely Gadget’s Go-Coaster. We were a little surprised, but she was thrilled to get to ride a coaster and scream with excitement on the short trip. Daddy didn’t mind, because the ride was thrilling enough to be enjoyable for an adult, even if it was very short.

Unfortunately ALL of the “indoor” rides had some portion that was very dark and fairly scary. Sonia was a little frightened in all of them, and after a couple attempts with Dalton we stopped trying to take him for fear of trying to crawl out of our arms. “it’s a small world” was the only inside ride he managed to find interesting rather than frightening and luckily he also got to ride, and enjoyed, Dumbo.

Fortunately he seemed to be happy just watching people, walking around to explore and there were a few things he could do, like visit Mickey and Minnie’s houses.

Unfortunately, Dalton got sick during Sonia’s birthday dinner at Cafe Orleans on Sunday evening. He vomited twice during dinner, and then a third time while we left the park. However he never acted distressed or bothered. After attempting to give him some Pedialyte and getting him to drink some water he slept through the night and seemed to be fine the next day. Some milk and food in his belly in the morning and he was good to go for a second day at Disney.

That night while Sonia and Dalton slept in the hotel room with Veronica, Daddy and Mommy got to head back into the park for a couple hours. We rode a number of the “grown-up rides”, saw a little of the light parade, and marveled at the number of strollers and infants still awake! It was very nice to have a little time to ourselves to cap off the long day and make the most of our tickets.

Besides the roller coaster, Sonia’s second favorite part of the trip was definitely all of the treats she got to eat. Ice cream, sucker, pineapple float, chocolate bananacicle (just like Curious George gets in one of her books), birthday beignets at dinner, cold watermelon, and I’m probably forgetting others.

Both kids skipped their naps both days, but pushed through any exhaustion to have a lot fun and hopefully make some memories, at least short-term ones.
